Allen County Regional Hospital, an award-winning Kansas critical access hospital dedicated to bringing innovative advanced healthcare to southeast Kansas with a compassionate, personalized style, announces the appointment of Marion Anthony “Tony” Thompson, FACHE, as Chief Executive Officer. He assumed his new responsibilities on July 20, 2015.
Board certified in Health Care Administration and a respected leader with a passion for rural healthcare, Thompson’s career reflects extensive experience in effectively managing critical access hospitals. This experience and knowledge will be a tremendous asset as Allen County Regional Hospital continues to serve Iola and surrounding communities with high-quality and compassionate healthcare services.
Since 2013, Thompson has served as Chief Executive Officer of Goodland Regional Medical Center in western Kansas. During his tenure, he led the 25-bed critical access county-owned hospital through organizational restructuring and quality improvement opportunities resulting in a successful turnaround, providing long-term financial and operational sustainability for the Goodland community.
Prior to his position at Goodland Regional Medical Center, Thompson spent one year as Chief Executive Officer at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Arkansas, and 14 years as Associate Administrator at White River Health System in Batesville, Arkansas. During Thompson’s time at White River Health System, the organization earned the distinguished Governor’s Quality Award.

Thompson received a Master of Science in healthcare from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi, and earned a bachelor’s of science from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas. He completed a Fellowship in Administration at Memorial Care System in Houston, Texas. Thompson has relocated to Iola with his wife, Carolyn.
Passionate about community service, Thompson is Past President of the Batesville Kiwanis Club; Past President of Old Independence Regional Museum; a member of Goodland Chamber of Commerce Board; and a Board member of the Kansas Association of Health Care Executives, among other organizations.
